TEEN RAPE PREVENTION BOOKS AND VIDEOS
Teen rape is forced sexual intercourse or sexual assault on a teenager. There
are a number of forms of sexual assault that can occur in children and teens,
including rape, attempted rape, child molestation, unwanted sexual intercourse,
and inappropriate touching. Rape is not sexual but about power control. Some
rapists use drugs called "date rape drugs" to take away a teen's ability to
resist. Rape is a serious crime, whether the rapist or molester is a stranger,
an acquaintance, or a family member. No matter how it happened, rape is
extremely frightening and traumatizing. A victim might have many intense
feelings including anger, depression, or fear. It is also common for victims to
feel ashamed or embarrassed and they might keep the incident a secret. Some
victims withdraw from family and friends. Rape victims require medical
attention, counseling, care, comfort, and time to heal.
Many rape victims know their attackers.
They should make their wellbeing their
first priority. They should not worry
about protecting the person who raped
them. They have the choice to report the
crime or not. Victims of sexual assault
require medical attention immediately
without changing their clothes,
showering, or washing. Being examined
right away is the best way to ensure
they get proper medical treatment as
well as providing evidence needed to
prosecute the rapist if a criminal case
is pursued.
If you feel you were or are being
sexually assaulted immediately get away
from the attacker to a safe place as
fast as you can and then call 911 or the
police. Go to the nearest hospital
emergency room. You need to be examined
or treated for any injuries and
screened. Do not wash, comb, or clean
any part of your body. Do not change any
clothes if possible. There are
many rape hotlines available including
the National Sexual Assault Hotline at
1-800-656-HOPE. You must know that the
rape was not your fault, seek medical
care and professional guidance.
