In this story, Buddy alienates other children when he cheats, pushes, and lies. Eventually, the children stop playing with him, and the school counselor sees him standing alone. When Buddy asks for help, the counselor teaches him the four rules for playing fair. The counselor and Buddy examine the importance of each rule including: telling the truth, following the rules, cooperating, and respecting others. Today Buddy has many friends because he follows those rules. The story is accompanied by questions to stimulate discussion of important issues.
