BULLYING EDUCATIONAL BOOKS AND VIDEOS
Every day thousands of adolescents and
teens wake up afraid to go to school due
to bullying. Bullying is when a person
is picked on over and over again by an
individual or group with more power
physically or socially. There are
usually three types of people involved
in bullying; the bully, the victim and
the bystander. Bullying is a problem
that affects millions of kids regardless
of race and class. Many parents and
teachers don't always notice that a
child is being bullied. Some parents do
and do not know what to do about it.
Education and intervention are essential
in stopping bullying in our schools,
homes and workplaces.
Bullying is not just name calling and
teasing. It can include verbal
intimidation and nonverbal intimidation
such as shoving, tripping, punching,
hitting, extorting money, or even sexual
assault. A form of verbal bullying
called cyber bullying is when a person
bullies another on the internet such as
sending cruel instant or email messages
or even posting insults about a person
on a website. Children have killed each
other and committed suicide after having
been involved in a cyber bullying
incident.
The toughest aspect of bullying is that
it is relentless. Most people can take
an occasional episode of teasing however
when it goes on and on it will have
detrimental effects on that person.
Bullying can not be dismissed; it is
violence and often leads to more violent
behavior as bullies grows up. The
effects of bullying on a victim can be
serious and affect him/her a lifetime.
In severe cases, bullying has
contributed to depression and tragedies,
such as suicides and school shootings.
Bullying does not just involve kids and occur in schools. Adults can be bullied
also. Adults can be bullied, harassed, sexually harassed and bullied in the
workplace. Many organizations have taken many steps to prevent sexual harassment
in the workplace but it still occurs. Workplace bullying has caused high rates
of sick leave, dismissals, disciplinary actions, early retirements, and stress
related illnesses. Workplace bullying is not just a concern to the affected
employees but to employers also.
