ADOLESCENT DEPRESSION, ANXIETY,
STRESS, AND SUICIDE BOOKS AND
VIDEOS
Toddlers, adolescents and teens can
suffer from depression and anxiety and
in the extreme cases become suicidal.
Unlike adults, however, children usually
are not able to express what they are
feeling and do not ask for help. It is
important for parents and teachers to
understand the basic signs about
childhood depression so they can help
the child or teen. There are many
sources and support groups to help
children, and teens that may be
depressed or contemplating suicide.
Parents and teachers should always take
childhood depression and suicide
attempts or threats very seriously and
do whatever it takes to help that child.
If you have reason to suspect your child
might be depressed or suicidal, you need
to act quickly and get professional
assistance immediately.
Children can experience depression at
any age even as a toddler or an infant.
Many toddlers attending preschool
experience separation anxiety and will
cry excessively because the do not want
to be separated from their parents.
Older children that are depressed might
not play as often with friends or spend
most of the time alone without
interests. They may constantly say they
wish they were dead or talk about
suicide
As children become teens depression
manifests in different ways. Teenage
depression is a pretty common occurrence
and it can affect anyone. Being a
teenager is hard for anyone with
pressures from friends, school and
parents. Some teens feel they have no
other way out and turn to suicide. For
others, suicide attempts are a way to
get attention. When a teen commits
suicide, everyone is affected. Teen
suicide prevention includes identifying
what causes the depression and suicidal
tendencies and taking action to prevent
it.
